Why join ATIO today?

As a non-profit professional association protecting the interests of its members, ATIO is also committed to excellence in translation and interpretation thereby protecting the interests of users of language services provided by its members. The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario provides a wide variety of professional and personal services to its members.

  1. Certification and Professional Recognition

Become a Candidate for Certification and be eligible to register for the certification examination. Those who pass this examination obtain the reserved title of "certified". The reserved title (Certified Translator) will entitle you, in most cases, to bid on Ontario government contracts and to have your name recorded in the federal government's inventory of suppliers. Moreover, when the federal government recruits full-time translators or terminologists, it no longer requires certified ATIO members to sit their language examination, provided the other administrative criteria have been met.
  2. The Annual Convention

When registering for the ATIO convention, members in good standing pay a reduced rate for this annual event which draws over 200 language professionals. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to gain valuable insight into your profession and to network with your peers.
  3. Staying Abreast of Change

Receive monthly mailings to members, participate in social and professional activities and read our newsletter InformATIO.
  4. Preparatory Course

Take advantage of opportunities to further your knowledge and improve your skills by taking the preparatory course in preparation for the Canadian Translators and Interpreters Council's next translation certification examination.
  5. Directory of Members

Once you are certified, the directory will be an invaluable tool for you. Distribution of the directory will make your name available to users of linguistic services. It will also put you in contact with a network of some 750 certified colleagues.
  6. Preferential Rates

Take advantage of preferential membership rates for publication subscriptions, professional development programs, a comprehensive insurance plan, and the annual convention.
  7. A Province-Wide Network of Colleagues

Take advantage of the many opportunities available throughout the year to meet and interact with colleagues from across the province. Broaden your own network of contacts and resource people with new sources of information.
